The case involving alleged Big Five cartel member Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his four co-accused has been postponed to June 15 at the Johannesburg High Court.

Matlala is accused of masterminding failed assassination attempts targeting his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni and music producer Seunkie Mokubung, better known as DJ Vettys.

The accused face a total of 25 charges linked to three alleged botched hit attempts that reportedly took place between August 2022 and January 2024.

Judge William Karam ruled that the trial proceedings will continue as originally scheduled on July 20.

Matlala appears alongside his wife, Tsakane Matlala, alleged hitmen Musa Kekana and Tiego Mabusela, as well as Nthabiseng Nzama.

The group remains accused in connection with the alleged failed attacks involving Thobejane, Sibanyoni and DJ Vettys.

According to court proceedings, the five accused are facing 25 charges related to the three separate incidents under investigation.

Authorities allege the incidents occurred over a period spanning from August 2022 to January 2024.

The matter will return to the Johannesburg High Court on June 15 ahead of the trial date set for July.
