In a significant breakthrough, the police in Limpopo have arrested an alleged serial rapist who is believed to be connected to a series of rape incidents. The 32-year-old suspect was apprehended on Friday morning, leading the provincial police to express confidence in having the right person in custody.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the provincial police, preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is linked to three separate rape cases that occurred between the years 2023 and 2024 in the Letsitele policing area.

The reign of terror began in February 2023, with several women falling victim to the alleged suspect in the area. Thanks to an extensive investigation, the police were able to establish a connection between the suspect and the three rape cases.

Acting on a tip-off, the authorities swiftly acted on the information with the assistance of an off-duty Tactical Response Team member and Flying Squad units. As a result, the suspect was traced and arrested at Mahlomeni village.

While the arrest is seen as a breakthrough, further investigations are underway to determine if the suspect could be linked to other similar cases. Provincial police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed confidence in the arrest.

“We believe we have the right person, and we are of the view that this arrest will help us resolve many cases in and around the Letsitele area. The tireless and persistent work by the teams involved is highly appreciated,” Hadebe said.

The suspect is expected to face three counts of rape when he appears in court shortly. Ledwaba confirmed that police investigations are still ongoing, indicating that there may be more developments in the case.
