Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has brought experienced forward Deon Fourie back into the national squad ahead of the highly anticipated four-Test series against New Zealand.
South African Rugby confirmed on Monday that the 39-year-old utility forward had been called up for the series, which gets underway on August 22.
Fourie, who can play at loose forward and hooker, returns to international rugby after spending an extended period on the sidelines with an injury.
His return comes nearly three years after his most recent appearance for the Springboks, when he featured in the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final against New Zealand in Paris.

Fourie’s last Test appearance came in one of the most memorable matches in Springbok history, when South Africa defeated New Zealand 12-11 in the World Cup final.
The veteran forward has already had an opportunity to face the All Blacks again at club level.

He scored a try for the visitors against the Stormers on Friday as the South African side secured a victory in their tour opener.
His performance has now been followed by a recall to the Springboks squad as Erasmus prepares his team for another demanding contest against New Zealand.

The first Test between South Africa and New Zealand is scheduled for August 22, with three more matches to follow in the series.
The Springboks are heading into the series after recording a 17-10 victory over Argentina in their latest Test.

The squad travelled back from Argentina in two groups on Sunday and Monday following the win against the Pumas.
