More than 2,000 Ford Ranger Double Cab vehicles have been recalled in South Africa over a potential safety defect involving their side curtain airbags.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced the recall on Saturday, affecting 2,275 vehicles manufactured for sale during the 2026 and 2027 model years.
The affected Rangers were sold through Ford franchised dealerships across the country between 22 May and 23 June 2026.
The recall also affects vehicles exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
Airbag Defect Could Increase Injury Risk
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba said the side curtain airbag in affected vehicles could come into contact with the B-Pillar trim when it inflates.

“The side curtain airbags of the affected vehicles may interact with the B-Pillar trim during inflation and not deploy as intended. If this occurs, the B-Pillar ramp may detach from the vehicle and plunge (become a projectile) when the side curtain airbag deploys,” Ntaba said.
The NCC warned that the detachment of the component could increase the risk of injury to occupants.
Ford Owners Urged To Check Vehicles
Owners of affected Ford Rangers have been advised to contact the supplier and take their vehicles to an authorised Ford dealership for inspection and any necessary repairs.
The remedial work will be completed free of charge.
NCC Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu urged owners not to postpone having their vehicles checked.
“This recall affects a safety-critical component of a significant number of vehicles. Owners or users of these vehicles should contact the supplier without delay,” Ratshisusu said.

“The NCC will be monitoring this and other recalls to ensure all affected vehicles in South Africa are attended to.”
Ford Ranger Double Cab owners are encouraged to establish whether their vehicles fall within the recall and arrange an inspection at an authorised dealership as soon as possible.
