Businessman Stefan Joel Govindraju has been granted R200,000 bail following his arrest in connection with alleged irregular procurement at Tembisa Hospital.
Govindraju appeared briefly before the Gauteng Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court, on Monday morning.
The State did not oppose his release, telling the court that the accused had been cooperating with investigators and that his travel documents would remain in the court’s possession.
Govindraju was arrested on Friday at OR Tambo International Airport after returning from a trip abroad.
He faces charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.
Stefan Govindraju Linked To R600 Million Alleged Syndicate
The businessman is accused of being part of a syndicate that allegedly siphoned hundreds of millions of rands through irregular procurement transactions at Tembisa Hospital.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) previously identified three major syndicates allegedly involved in the procurement network at the Gauteng hospital.

According to investigators, the syndicate linked to Govindraju allegedly benefited to the tune of approximately R600 million.
Govindraju was also identified as a director of at least 70 entities, with businesses linked to him allegedly receiving tenders from the hospital.
The SIU’s investigation forms part of a wider probe into alleged corruption and procurement irregularities at Tembisa Hospital.
