Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, a prominent figure in South African politics, has officially resigned from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to focus on his academic career and make a meaningful impact in civil society.

In an interview with SABC News, Ndlozi explained that after being suspended from the party, he made several attempts to engage the EFF leadership over allegations of his exit plans, but received no response.

Reflecting on the party’s December conference, he acknowledged it marked the conclusion of his political journey with the EFF, leading him to make the decisive move away from party politics.

Ndlozi’s Decision to Step Away from Politics

Speaking candidly about his decision, Ndlozi shared that he believes he has already contributed significantly to party politics. “We don’t live in a one-party state,” he said, emphasizing the freedom to contribute to society beyond party lines.

With his departure from politics, Ndlozi plans to focus on academia, community development, research, and advocacy—areas he feels are crucial to uplifting public discourse.

A key motivation for his departure is his belief in the importance of civil society, which he feels has been neglected in the struggle for social change.

“It is within civil society that we can cultivate and agitate the true notions of freedom,” Ndlozi explained, stressing the potential of this space to drive liberation through collective grassroots action.

Ndlozi’s Legacy in the EFF

Before stepping down, Ndlozi had been integral to the EFF’s rise. As the party’s first national spokesperson from 2013 to 2020, he crafted the public image of the EFF with his distinctive communication style.

He has also served as an MP since 2014, chairing key committees challenging government policies, and contributing to the party’s political education programs.

Ndlozi’s departure from the EFF marks the end of a significant chapter, but he remains confident in the party’s future, praising the emergence of new leaders who will continue his work.

For Ndlozi, the time has come to contribute to South African society in new and impactful ways, outside the political sphere.
