National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Fadiel Adams has been suspended from parliamentary proceedings for 20 days, preventing him from taking part in the Section 89 Impeachment Committee’s work. The committee was formally informed of the suspension during its meeting on Wednesday.
Committee Secretary Thembinkosi Ngema confirmed that Adams’ suspension took effect on 3 August under Parliament’s disciplinary processes. Members were not provided with additional details during the meeting beyond confirmation that the sanction was already in force.
Adams, who has been a vocal participant in the Section 89 impeachment inquiry into President Cyril Ramaphosa, was absent from Wednesday’s proceedings as the committee continued with its administrative work despite ongoing legal challenges affecting the inquiry.
Fadiel Adams Suspension Confirmed By Section 89 Impeachment Committee
The Fadiel Adams suspension was raised after African Transformation Movement (ATM) MP Vuyo Zungula noted that the NCC leader had not been called to vote on the recommendation of an evidence leader for the Section 89 inquiry.
Ngema explained that Adams would remain excluded from committee proceedings until his suspension expires.
“The NCC member has been suspended for 20 days with effect from 3 August. So, he’s not on the platform, and he will only be joining the committee once the suspension is done.”
Fadiel Adams Serving Existing Parliamentary Sanction
The Fadiel Adams suspension is linked to disciplinary action imposed by Parliament in December after he published the personal details of Democratic Alliance (DA) staff members on social media. As part of the sanction, he was suspended from parliamentary sittings and committee meetings for 20 days, while his salary was also docked for the same period.
This is the second disciplinary penalty Adams has received since entering Parliament two years ago. Earlier last year, he was suspended from the National Assembly for 15 days following a vulgar social media rant.

Although Adams is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in the coming days over leaked information he says was sent anonymously to his parliamentary office, Parliament made it clear that his absence from Wednesday’s committee meeting is unrelated to that matter or his recent arrest.
