Two people have died, and 12 others were injured after a car and a minibus taxi collided in Duncan Village, KuGompo City, in the Eastern Cape.
The crash happened on Monday night, with the provincial Transport Department confirming that the two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.

Reckless and negligent driving is suspected to have contributed to the crash, according to the department.
12 Injured In Duncan Village Taxi Crash
Transport Department spokesperson Makhaya Komisa said 12 passengers travelling in the Toyota Quantum sustained various injuries in the collision.
“The 12 injured passengers from the Toyota Quantum sustained various injuries during the crash, while the driver of the Toyota Quantum escaped unharmed,” said Komisa.
The injured passengers were taken to Cecilia Makiwane and Frere hospitals for further medical examination and treatment.

Komisa said reckless and negligent driving was allegedly the main contributing factor in the collision.

“It is alleged that reckless and negligent driving was the main contributing factor to the crash. A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Duncan Village SAPS for further investigation.”
The circumstances surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation.
