Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) prosecutor Drushantha Ramsamy has told the Madlanga Commission that she received a warning about the working environment within the unit before taking up her role. She continued her testimony on Wednesday as the commission examined the circumstances surrounding a whistleblower investigation.

Ramsamy returned to the witness stand to give further evidence about her involvement in investigating a whistleblower report submitted by National Coloured Congress (NCC) Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams two years ago. The report formed part of the commission’s ongoing inquiry into matters linked to Crime Intelligence.

According to the whistleblower report, Adams alleged that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) used the Secret Services slush fund to buy luxury vehicles and pay for hotel accommodation. The commission is seeking to establish how the report eventually resulted in the IDAC investigating Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo.

IDAC Prosecutor Describes Warning Before Joining Investigation

The IDAC prosecutor told the Madlanga Commission that she was cautioned about the culture within the unit before she began working there. She said the warning came from Captain McLeen shortly after it became known that she would be working closely with Advocate Johnson and the Eastern Cape team.

“When Captain McLeen found out that I was going to be working with Advocate Johnson so closely and the Eastern Cape team, he called me aside and had coffee with me and said I’m naïve. He said if I’m not careful, if I don’t document everything, they would ruin my career.”

Madlanga Commission Examines Whistleblower Report

The Madlanga Commission continues to investigate the handling of the whistleblower report submitted by Adams. A key issue is understanding how the allegations contained in the report led investigators to focus on Dumisani Khumalo.

The report alleged that funds from the Secret Services slush fund were used by the Political Killings Task Team for luxury vehicles and hotel accommodation. These allegations remain part of the commission’s ongoing inquiry.

Ramsamy’s evidence forms part of the commission’s broader examination of events surrounding the whistleblower investigation. Her testimony is expected to continue as the inquiry hears further evidence from witnesses connected to the matter.
