EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu Failed To Disclose Payments From VBS Bank.

It has been revealed that EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu failed to disclose three payments from the now-defunct VBS bank.

This revelation came to light after a complaint by the DA, which was investigated by Parliament’s acting Registrar of Members’ Interests, advocate Anthea Gordon.

In a letter addressed to the DA on Monday, Gordon stated, “I write on behalf of the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests (‘the committee’) at its meeting of 28 September 2023 finalized its deliberations on your complaint dated 18 October 2019 against Hon.”

Shivambu, MP.” The complaint in question was related to the Venda Mutual Bank Society (VBS) scandal.

Gordon further revealed that the committee obtained an affidavit from the liquidator in the VBS liquidation matter, which identified three payments made to Floyd Shivambu by Sgameka Projects Pty Ltd, the company owned by Shivambu’s brother, Brian, during 2017. The details of these payments are as follows:

  • 18 August 2017: R100 000
  • 24 August 2017: R30 000
  • 26 August 2017: R50 000

It is concerning that Shivambu failed to disclose these payments, which clearly indicates a breach of the Code of Ethical Conduct and Disclosure of Members’ Interests.

As a member of Parliament, it is essential for politicians to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability.

As a result of the committee’s findings, it has been recommended that Shivambu’s salary be reduced by nine days.

This serves as a reminder that no one is above the law and that all individuals, regardless of their position, must be held accountable for their actions.
