DA Supporters Speak Out On Why They Are Rooting For The Party In 2024 Polls.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is confident that its performance in this yearā€™s election will be one of its best. While the partyā€™s leadership is not making any public statements at the moment, there is a palpable mood of positivity among party members, agents, municipal councillors, and candidates.

Bronwyn Engelbrecht, a DA member of the Gauteng legislature during the previous administration, noted that there was a buzz and a feeling within the party that it had done well and that its campaign efforts had surpassed previous ones.

ā€œWe invested massively in our visibility and in getting our message to voters,ā€ said Engelbrecht. ā€œIt was a tough campaign, and we worked incredibly hard. I feel there will be dividends.ā€

She emphasized that the partyā€™s campaign theme, Rescue SA, was not a negative message but rather a positive spin on the situation.

ā€œWe wanted people to know that South Africa can be rescued and that we wanted to be the countryā€™s partner to do so. Because we can do it, and we can do it together. Itā€™s about making work of saving the country,ā€ she noted.

Renaldo Gouws, DA spokesperson for economic development, tourism, and agriculture in Nelson Mandela Bay, echoed this sentiment on the X social media platform, thanking voters for turning out in large numbers on election day.

ā€œThe results coming in are fascinating,ā€ he said, adding that the ANC would not be able to recover from waning support and would eventually be relegated to the opposition benches. Federal chair of the DA, Helen Zille, said in television interviews, ā€œThe ANC will never go above 50%, mark my words.ā€

Despite several challenges in DA-leaning areas, such as ten-hour-long queues in Boksburg, party support has prevailed. Gouws mentioned that the DA had to fight battles on multiple fronts, including with smaller parties like the Patriotic Alliance.

After ENCA posted a projection that the DA would retain the Western Cape, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis posted a picture of his massive grin, thanking citizens for their support and calling the Western Cape the ā€œone province that works.ā€

While it is too early to make definitive predictions, the DAā€™s campaign efforts have made an impact. Party insiders agree that the DA has run its best campaign in years, with innovative strategies like the flag-burning advertisement making people sit up and take notice of their message.
