During the service, ANC provincial spokesperson Stan Mathabatha addressed rumors circulating in tabloids that he had left the ANC to join uMkhonto weSizwe, a group currently being supported and campaigned for by former President Jacob Zuma. Mathabatha vehemently denied these claims, emphasizing his unwavering loyalty to the ANC.

In response to the tabloid allegations, Mathabatha stated, “I belong to the ANC – the ANC brought me up, the ANC made me what I am today. I am what I am because of the African National Congress, so there’s no way in which I can leave this glorious movement. So that tabloid must take its rubbish back to where it came from.”

His statement reaffirmed his commitment to the ANC and dismissed any suggestions of his departure from the party. Mathabatha’s words echoed the sentiments of many ANC members who view the party as their lifelong political home.
