Songezo Zibi, the leader of Rise Mzansi, has criticized the African National Congress (ANC) government while pledging to address the serious challenges facing South Africa. Zibi delivered a keynote speech at his party’s election manifesto at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria on Saturday, aiming to attract voters in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

In his speech, Zibi expressed his belief that the country is in “serious trouble” and facing a crisis. He emphasized that politics is not a game of empty promises and smoke and mirrors for Rise Mzansi, but a matter of life and death.

He stated, “There is one choice in this election: Are we going to let the ANC continue ruining our lives and the future of our children? We are here today because the answer is a big no.”

Zibi highlighted the significance of the upcoming elections, emphasizing the slogan “2024 is our 1994.” He drew parallels between the pivotal moment in South Africa’s history in 1994 and the current crossroads the country faces.

Zibi warned that if the country does not change course, it risks becoming another failed African state, despite its abundant natural resources and wealth. The Rise Mzansi leader pointed out that the issues plaguing the country, such as unemployment and crime, have worsened over the past twenty years.

He criticized the prevalence of corruption, stating that it is the very reason why politicians engage in politics, often resorting to violence and even killing each other for the opportunity to steal from the people.

Zibi expressed a loss of trust in the police and government officials, urging society to no longer tolerate or defend corrupt individuals.

Zibi also highlighted the irresponsible borrowing and reckless spending of the ANC government, which has left the country’s bank account nearly empty while leaders live lavish lifestyles. He emphasized Rise Mzansi’s commitment to fixing government finances, prosecuting corruption, and spending responsibly to protect the social welfare of citizens.

Addressing the issue of violence in South African society, Zibi lamented the desensitization towards violence and the acceptance of unacceptable behavior. He specifically called out men for perpetuating violence against each other, women, and children, emphasizing the need for change.

While acknowledging that Rise Mzansi does not promise miracles, Zibi assured the public that the party has a better vision and will propose a package of reforms to fix Parliament, government, municipalities, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to improve the lives of citizens.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that reversing the destruction caused by corruption and mismanagement will be a difficult task.

Lastly, Zibi warned the public not to be fooled by the names and faces of those who were responsible for the country’s destruction, even if they formed new political parties and adopted new slogans.

He asserted that Rise Mzansi will not be fooled again, as they recognize that these individuals are all the same—corrupt to the core, stealing, lying, and making empty promises.
