Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala is expected to return to the Madlanga Commission on Monday to continue giving evidence before the inquiry.
Matlala’s testimony was postponed last Monday to allow him additional time to consult his legal team. His appearance had initially been scheduled for September before being brought forward at short notice.
When Matlala appeared before the commission last week, he had not yet filed his supplementary affidavit, which is expected to address questions from the evidence leaders.
Cat Matlala To Address Outstanding Madlanga Commission Questions
Matlala is expected to deal with the outstanding questions when proceedings resume on Monday morning.
His advocate, Annelene van den Heever, previously raised concerns about the volume of documents that had been made available to the defence.
“Last count, and that was before we got a further email last night, the volume was far exceeding 2,000 pages. It’s common cause between us and the evidence leaders that we were only served with bundles yesterday afternoon,” she said.
During his previous appearance, Matlala read through his statement but declined to answer questions relating to matters currently before the courts.
This included questions concerning his Medicare24 Tshwane contract with the South African Police Service (SAPS), a matter for which he is due to stand trial next month.
Matlala Questioned About Jothan Msibi Meetings
Matlala did, however, acknowledge meeting several apparent businessmen, including Suliman Carrim, at the home of late taxi boss Jothan Msibi, who has been linked to the Big Five Cartel.
Evidence leader Advocate Mahlape Sello questioned Matlala about three individuals mentioned in his evidence.
“For the three, Mr Mthakathi, Mr Mthethwa, Mr Molefe, you indicate that they were friends of Mr Msibi?” Sello asked.

“Yes,” Matlala responded.
Sello then asked: “Should we understand from that that you met them at Mr Msibi’s premises, home, residence?”

“Yes, that’s correct,” Matlala answered.
Matlala is expected to expand on this line of evidence when he resumes his testimony before the Madlanga Commission on Monday morning.
