One individual was struck by the thrown stones. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrest, emphasizing that it should serve as a stern warning to anyone attempting to disrupt the voting process.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Phalala Magistrate’s Court to face charges related to the incident.
In a separate occurrence, three suspects were arrested for allegedly intimidating and threatening a voter at Xibukulwana Secondary School in Tzaneen, Limpopo.
During special voting, the suspects approached the voter and demanded to know which political party she intended to vote for. They threatened her life if she did not cast her vote in favor of their preferred party.
Mashaba explained, “Preliminary reports indicate that the female complainant arrived at the voting station to cast her vote but was confronted by two women and a man. They inquired about her political preference, to which she responded that her vote was confidential.
“Undeterred, the suspects threatened her, insisting she vote for a specific party or face danger. The complainant promptly reported the incident to an Electoral Commission (IEC) official, leading to the swift apprehension of the suspects.”
