Lady Gaga delivered a striking fashion moment in Los Angeles, stepping onto the black carpet in a rare couture creation from Alexander McQueen’s celebrated tenure at Givenchy.

The singer attended the world premiere of Mayhem Requiem at The Grove, a film capturing her intimate no-phones-allowed performance at The Wiltern. For the occasion, Gaga paid tribute to her late friend McQueen by choosing a dramatic gown from his autumn 1997 couture collection for Givenchy, titled “Eclect Dissect”.

Set against a black carpet scattered with rose petals, Gaga embraced full theatricality in the archival ensemble, reinforcing her reputation for blending music, fashion and performance art into one unforgettable spectacle.

The red-and-black silk satin gown drew inspiration from the traditional traje de luces worn by Spanish matadors. The design featured open sleeves trimmed with lace, a rhinestone-embellished mock neck, tasseled epaulettes and a sweeping flared skirt layered with delicate black lace over crimson silk.

Gaga elevated the already dramatic look with a netted veil and a black lace fan. She was also accompanied by a group of dancers dressed in white, each carrying roses, adding another layer of visual drama to the premiere.

Alexander McQueen’s Eclect Dissect Collection Remains A Red Carpet Favourite

McQueen’s work for Givenchy continues to resonate with celebrities and stylists, with his autumn 1997 couture collection proving especially enduring.

At the 2024 Academy Museum Gala, Kaia Gerber wore McQueen’s interpretation of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic My Fair Lady gown. Earlier this year, Cynthia Erivo selected a silver woven raffia dress with a fringed collar and voluminous sleeves for the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

In a 2002 interview with Numéro, McQueen explained the eclectic inspirations behind the collection, which drew from Japanese, Scottish and Spanish influences.

“[My] idea was this mad scientist who cut all these women up and mixed them all back together,’ McQueen said.

Although Lady Gaga, Kaia Gerber and Cynthia Erivo each chose designs inspired by different cultural references, their looks are united by McQueen’s unmistakable flair for grandeur and bold storytelling.
