Spotify has expanded its AI-powered DJ feature to a wider global audience, giving Premium subscribers in several new countries access to the personalised music experience.

The streaming giant confirmed that the OpenAI-powered feature is now rolling out in Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland and additional markets. With the latest expansion, Spotify’s DJ is now available in more than 75 countries worldwide, up from 50 markets in August 2023.

Spotify is also introducing four new language options for DJ as part of the rollout. Users can now interact with the feature in French, German, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese, with each language featuring its own distinct voice.

The AI-powered DJ uses listeners’ streaming habits and music preferences to curate a personalised mix of tracks. It combines recently played songs, older favourites and recommended new releases into an evolving listening session tailored to individual users.

The streaming service users can also ask DJ to create a radio-style stream centred around a specific artist, genre, mood or activity. The feature is designed to make music discovery feel more conversational and interactive.

The company first launched DJ more than three years ago as part of its wider push into AI-driven experiences on the platform.

New Spotify DJ Languages Bring Personalised Listening Experience

While Spotify’s recommendation system has long relied on algorithms to generate playlists and suggestions, the addition of generative AI has introduced a more human-style presentation.

The DJ voice offers commentary and context around the selected tracks, creating the feel of a personalised radio host accompanying the listening experience.

Spotify says the newly added language options — French, German, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese — each come with their own unique voice, helping deliver a more localised experience for listeners across different regions.
