Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Geordin Hill-Lewis has called for sweeping policing reforms, improved crime intelligence and decisive action against corruption within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Speaking during the party’s Limpopo provincial congress in Polokwane on Saturday, Hill-Lewis said organised crime, the spread of illegal firearms and weak investigations continue to threaten public safety across South Africa.
He also urged DA members to intensify voter registration campaigns ahead of the next local government elections, arguing that accountable leadership and effective governance are essential to addressing the country’s challenges.

Hill-Lewis said South Africa needs a government willing to confront challenges directly instead of ignoring them.
“We need a government that stops pretending that everything is fine. That is what a DA-led government will do. In the DA, we do not go around pretending that everything is fine in government when we know that it is not.

“We run towards the problems. We tackle difficult problems. We solve them over time. We are honest with the public wherever we govern. South Africa’s problems will not be solved overnight, but they will be solved if you have good, honest, hardworking, passionate South Africans.”
The DA leader maintained that stronger policing structures and improved investigative capacity are necessary to combat organised crime and restore public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
DA Calls For Voter Registration Drive Ahead Of Local Government Elections
Addressing party structures at the Limpopo congress, Hill-Lewis encouraged members to increase voter registration efforts ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
He said the DA believes South Africa’s challenges can be addressed through accountable governance and leaders who prioritise service delivery and transparency.
The Times Post understands that crime prevention and governance reforms remain among the DA’s key focus areas as political parties prepare for future electoral contests.
