The African National Congress (ANC) President, Cyril Ramaphosa, expressed confidence that the governing party will secure more than 50% of the votes in the upcoming general elections in Gauteng.

Speaking during a campaign event in Mamelodi on Sunday, Ramaphosa exuded optimism, stating that he can “smell victory.” The ANC leader, accompanied by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, emphasized that the party was poised for a strong comeback, as the majority of South Africans still believe in the ANC’s vision.

Ramaphosa affirmed, “The ANC is going to get more than 50%. This province is the home of the ANC. As I have been going around, people are saying we belong to the ANC and we support the ANC.

So, we are confident, I can feel the pulse of our people and I can smell the victory. So, it is going to happen and whether people like it or not, the ANC is going to come back with a bang.”

Highlighting the importance of democracy, Ramaphosa stressed that the ANC’s success was contingent upon the support of all South Africans, regardless of age. He urged young people to register to vote, as the upcoming elections were crucial for shaping the country’s future.

Ramaphosa stated, “Young people must take it upon themselves to register because it is about the future. These coming elections are about the future of this country and the future lies in the hands of young people as they go forward.

We want them to be interested and deeply involved in our democracy. It is important that they are the authors of their own destinies and be able to say we are taking our destiny and our future into our hands.”

During his visit to Mamelodi, Ramaphosa also took the opportunity to listen to the concerns of local residents, who primarily expressed issues with water supply. The ANC leader assured the community that their concerns would be addressed.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) expressed gratitude to South Africans for their active participation in the voter registration process. The recent weekend marked the second and final opportunity for citizens to register for the upcoming elections.

However, those who were unable to register during this period can still visit their local municipal offices or register online until the election date is proclaimed by President Ramaphosa.

The ANC’s optimism and Ramaphosa’s confidence in securing more than 50% of the votes in Gauteng reflect the party’s strong belief in its ability to regain support and reaffirm its position as the leading political force in South Africa.

As the election approaches, the ANC continues to emphasize the importance of democratic participation and the role of young people in shaping the nation’s future.
