Urgent Call For Minister Nzimande To Address Accommodation Crisis At CPUT.

The Rise Mzansi Youth, a newly established youth party, is urging Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande to take immediate action in addressing the campus accommodation crisis at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

This call comes in the wake of a viral video on social media showing CPUT security forcefully removing students from its premises in Bellville on Tuesday.

The Rise Mzansi Youth has highlighted that the lack of campus accommodation is not limited to CPUT but is affecting hundreds of students across the country’s tertiary institutions.

The party finds the lack of urgency from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and Minister Nzimande deeply disturbing.

Lawrence Manaka, spokesperson for Rise Mzansi Youth, stated, “As Rise Mzansi, we have assessed the crisis at CPUT and discovered that students remain without shelter despite the pleas of affiliated structures, including a memorandum that has been sent.

What is of great concern to Rise Mzansi is the attitude of the management, who, according to the affected students, informally communicated that individuals identified as troublemakers.”

In response to these claims, CPUT has denied any accusations of evicting students from its residences. However, the urgency of the situation cannot be ignored, and Minister Nzimande must intervene and ensure that suitable accommodation is provided for the affected students.

The Rise Mzansi Youth’s call for action highlights the need for a comprehensive and immediate solution to the accommodation crisis at CPUT and other tertiary institutions. The government and relevant authorities need to address this issue promptly to prevent further hardships for students seeking higher education.
