Alleged underworld figure Ziyaad Poole is set to return to the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday as cross-examination continues in the high-profile trial involving Nafiz Modack.
State prosecutors have been closely examining Poole’s testimony after he provided differing accounts regarding a meeting with co-accused Amaal Jantjies. According to allegations before the court, Poole paid Jantjies to obtain confidential information relating to Anti-Gang Unit operations for Modack.
Advocate Greg Wolmarans is expected to continue challenging Poole’s version of events, particularly surrounding an alleged payment of R10,000 made to Jantjies at a petrol station in Century City.
State Challenges Alleged Payment Linked To Anti-Gang Unit Information
The prosecution maintains that the money was paid in exchange for intelligence concerning plans by the Anti-Gang Unit to conduct a raid at Modack’s property.
Poole has disputed aspects of the State’s case, including claims relating to a phone call that allegedly took place during the meeting. He maintains that the call did not come from Modack.

During proceedings, Wolmarans questioned Poole about discrepancies between his current testimony and information previously provided to his former attorney, Nazeer Parker.
The prosecutor highlighted the apparent contradiction by telling Poole, “As it stands, your version that you have given this court is in conflict with what Mr Parker said in court.”
Cross-examination is expected to continue as the State seeks clarification on the differing accounts presented during the proceedings.
