Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia has defended acting National Commissioner Puleng Dimpane, describing her record as “untainted” amid questions about her involvement in a controversial police tender.
Cachalia told National Council of Provinces (NCOP) delegates on Tuesday that Dimpane had no role in the awarding of a multi-million-rand contract to Medicare24 Tshwane District, a company linked to alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The contract, which was later cancelled, has also featured in evidence before the Madlanga Commission. The acting police minister said Dimpane was instead responsible for ensuring that irregular expenditure was disclosed in financial statements and for initiating an inquiry into the tender.
Cachalia Defends Dimpane Over Medicare24 Tender
Responding to questions from NCOP delegates about Dimpane, Cachalia said the acting national commissioner had never been involved in tender fraud.
He said the inquiry she instituted into Medicare24 Tshwane District ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the contract.
Cachalia also addressed questions about whether Dimpane had the necessary security clearance to serve as acting national commissioner.
Dimpane’s Security Clearance Valid Until 2029
Cachalia confirmed that Dimpane’s security clearance remains valid until 2029.
He also defended her appointment to lead the South African Police Service (SAPS) in an acting capacity, saying it reflected the government’s commitment to empowering women.

The acting minister said Dimpane’s record remained “untainted” and maintained that she was not involved in the controversial tender awarded to Medicare24 Tshwane District.
The contract and its cancellation remain part of the matters being examined by the Madlanga Commission, which is investigating allegations involving criminality and corruption within law enforcement and other state structures.
