“But I’m so happy to be feeling. And maybe crying on your birthday is okay—it’s all the love I still have for my parents yearning to be felt by them.”

Unlike previous birthdays where Pearl would wake up feeling numb, this year is different. She shared that she is embracing all the emotions that come with her special day—joy, sadness, excitement, love, hope, and fears.

She expressed her longing for a call from her parents and how she deeply misses her dad’s voice.

Pearl added, “But with all the despair I may often feel at the losses I’ve had to endure over the years, I’m still standing, tall and proud. So just in case they see everything, they didn’t die in vain.”

Despite the sadness, Pearl finds solace in allowing herself to cry. She believes that her tears serve as a reminder of the power and love she comes from, as well as the strength she carries within her.

She sees her birthday as a tribute to her parents, who brought her into this world and raised her.

Pearl acknowledges the challenges of giving birth and raising a child, and she hopes that she is making it worth it. She credits her parents for the work she has accomplished, including her role as Queen Sono and being a trailblazer for future generations of game changers in Africa.

She concludes her note by saying, “Happy bringing a new soul into the planet to my parents. Giving birth and raising a child is tough—hope I’m making it worth it.

“The people who gave you Queen Sono and the first to so many things that we can only hope inspired the new and coming generations of game changers on this continent.”

On her special day, Pearl Thusi reminds us of the power of embracing our emotions and cherishing the love and strength that shape us. Happy birthday, Pearl!
