It seems like the plot thickens in the murder case of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. The South African Police Service (Saps) has announced the arrest of yet another suspect in connection to the double murders.

The 30-year-old suspect was apprehended in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) after being on the run. This arrest comes just a day after the revelation that six other suspects were already in custody. However, only five of them will appear in court since the other two are currently detained in eSwatini.

The murders took place on 10 February last year outside the now-defunct Wish on Florida restaurant in Durban. While the motive behind the killings remains unclear, it has been confirmed that AKA was the main target, and Tibz was shot by coincidence.

The police have been diligently working on cracking the case, and their efforts have led to the arrest of the alleged mastermind, two hitmen, two spotters, and the organizer of firearms and vehicles used in the crime.

These arrests were made at different intervals in connection to other cases as the police gathered evidence on Forbes and Motsoane’s deaths.

The first suspect, who organized the firearms and vehicles, was arrested in Cape Town on 22 April 2023. The second suspect was apprehended a few months later and charged in a separate murder case.

The third suspect was nabbed on 14 December. Two others were arrested in eSwatini on 24 February this year and are expected to be deported back to South Africa. The alleged mastermind surrendered to the police on 27 February, while the seventh suspect went into hiding but was eventually arrested after being reportedly tipped off.

While the police have made significant progress in the investigation, they have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests. In their efforts, they have managed to recover the firearm used in the shooting, as well as four vehicles and cartilages that were linked to another crime scene.

The recovery of the getaway vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz, took place on 6 March, while the BMW used to trail AKA when he landed in KZN was found in August last year. A Hyundai i10 vehicle and a Volkswagen Polo were both recovered in October.

As the investigation into AKA murder case continues, the police are determined to uncover the truth behind the murders of AKA and Tibz. With each arrest and recovery of evidence, they are one step closer to bringing justice to the victims and their families.

Stay tuned for further updates as the case unfolds.
