South African media personality and publicist Maria McCloy has died at the age of 50.
Her family confirmed on Wednesday that McCloy passed away on Tuesday night at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after suffering heart failure.
Known for her work as a deejay, publicist and fashion designer, McCloy built a respected career in the entertainment and fashion industries and was widely admired by colleagues and friends.

In a statement, her family said they would remember her for her kindness, warmth, generosity and unwavering love for the people in her life.
“During this incredibly difficult and shocking time, the family humbly asks for privacy as they grieve and come to terms with their loss and kindly ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” said her family in a statement.
McCloy is survived by her mother and her two sisters, Thandiwe and Natasha, as well as numerous relatives and close friends mourning her passing.

Just weeks before her death, McCloy appeared as a guest on 702’s Clement Manyathela Show as part of the Hanging Out feature.
During the interview, she reflected on her life and professional journey, offering listeners a personal look at the experiences that shaped her career.
McCloy also used the opportunity to express her deep appreciation for Kwaito music, the distinctly South African genre that became a defining soundtrack for young people in the country’s democratic era following the historic 1994 South African general election.
