Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) President Julius Malema has reiterated his stance on the construction of low-cost government housing, known as RDP houses, in the controversial Afrikaans enclave of Orania.
This demand is part of his broader conditions for considering participation in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
The African National Congress (ANC), having recently lost its majority in the general elections, has formed a coalition with the Democratic Alliance (DA) and other parties to lead the country.

Julius Malema confirmed over the weekend that the EFF would not participate in the GNU unless specific conditions were met.
A key demand is the exclusion of the DA and Freedom Front Plus (FF) from any coalition talks. Malema insists, “We have made it clear that for us to participate, the DA and Freedom Front Plus cannot be involved. We insist on RDP houses in Orania.”
The EFF has criticized the ANC for what it perceives as empowering white supremacy by seeking refuge within the DA. This criticism extends to the ANC’s discussions with the FF about recognizing Orania.
According to Malema, the current coalition is a “grand coalition” of the ANC and white monopoly capital, which he claims consolidates white power over the economy and means of production in South Africa.
Malema stated, “We refuse to sell out. We did not do so when we were young and we won’t today.”

The recent elections saw President Cyril Ramaphosa defeating Malema by a significant margin, securing 283 votes to Malema’s 44. Malema has warned that history will judge the ANC and DA harshly for their coalition.
He emphasized that the EFF’s participation in the election was to demonstrate their opposition to what he terms a “marriage of convenience” aimed at consolidating power.
