The Madlanga Commission has heard allegations that controversial businessman Suliman Carrim regularly spends long periods away from the medical facility where he is receiving treatment, despite claiming he is too ill to testify.

The claims were made as the commission considered an application relating to his continued absence from the proceedings. Carrim has previously missed several scheduled appearances, citing an undisclosed medical condition.

The Madlanga Commission was told that Carrim is currently admitted to a medical facility. The information emerged during proceedings relating to his application for a postponement after he failed to appear before the commission.

Evidence leader Adila Hasim argued that available location data raises questions about the extent of Carrim’s illness. According to Hasim, the information suggests he spends significant time away from the facility on a regular basis.

Suliman Carrim Missed Several Commission Hearings
