Actress Katlego Danke has shared an emotional tribute to the late Seputla Sebogodi, describing him as one of the few people who consistently believed in her talent and encouraged her to pursue her dreams.
Speaking at his memorial service in Pretoria, Danke reflected on the lasting impact the veteran actor had on both her personal life and professional journey. Sebogodi died on 15 July 2026 following complications related to diabetes.
Katlego Danke Remembers Seputla Sebogodi’s Unwavering Support
The Katlego Danke tribute formed one of the most touching moments of the memorial service held at the South African State Theatre on Thursday, 23 July. Family, friends, fellow actors and members of the entertainment industry gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the acclaimed performer.
For television audiences, Danke and Sebogodi became household favourites through their roles on Generations. Danke portrayed Dineo Mashaba, while Sebogodi played her on-screen husband, creating one of the soapie’s most memorable partnerships.
Reflecting on their relationship, Danke said Sebogodi’s faith in her abilities stood out above everything else.
“I’ve never worked with somebody who believed in my talent even more then I did. He believed in my career, he believed in what I could do. I remember being interviewed on 702 and he called in only to remind me that Charlie you said you’re going to do this and this with your career, don’t forget. I appreciated that so much because nobody believed in me the way Seputla Sebogodi did.”
She also smiled as she recalled one of his favourite sayings from their days on Generations.
“Dinny, mosadi waka o mobotsana.”
Seputla Sebogodi Memorial Filled With Cherished Memories
The Seputla Sebogodi memorial also gave Danke the opportunity to share lighter moments from their time together on set. She recalled filming a scene where their characters had to eat crème brûlée, a dessert that sparked Sebogodi’s curiosity.
“First time being on set with somebody who had a love for finer things that was quite hidden. I remember the one time being on set and Kenneth and Dineo had to have crème brûlée, and he was like, ‘What is this thing, how do you eat it’.

“He made me take him afterwards to Melrose Arch to eat crème brûlée. Little did I know that all these little moments would lead to today. Sad, but beautiful.”
Katlego Danke Reflects On Final Conversation With Seputla Sebogodi
The Katlego Danke tribute ended with a heartfelt account of the last conversation she shared with Sebogodi. She revealed that she had approached him about taking part in one of her projects and was moved by his immediate willingness to help.
“Our last conversation was me asking him to do a project for me, and the first thing he said was ‘Of course’. I said, ‘I haven’t even asked you, you don’t know what I want’. He said, ‘Anything for you, anything’.”

As she concluded her tribute, Danke said Sebogodi’s encouragement and generosity would remain with her forever.
“You will be missed. You will be sorely missed,” said Danke.
