Police have seized seven high-calibre rifles, including three confirmed to belong to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), during a raid at a house in Daveyton linked to an alleged cash-in-transit robbery plot.
A 41-year-old suspect was arrested after officers uncovered an arsenal of weapons and other items believed to have been intended for use in the planned crime.
Daveyton Raid Uncovers SANDF Rifles And Explosives
The operation was launched after police received intelligence about a group allegedly planning to carry out a cash-in-transit heist in Ekurhuleni.
A joint team comprising the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), the South African Police Service (SAPS) Highway Patrol and Crime Intelligence traced the information to a property in Khumalo Street, Daveyton.
During the search, officers recovered seven unlicensed high-calibre rifles, explosives, ammunition, a hijacked BMW and other items. Police said the firearms had been concealed in the ceiling of the house.
EMPD Links Suspect To Alleged Cash-In-Transit Syndicate
The 41-year-old suspect is expected to face charges relating to the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives, as well as hijacking.
EMPD spokesperson Millicent Kekana said investigators believe the suspect could be linked to a cash-in-transit robbery syndicate operating across Gauteng.

“Members received intelligence about a group of suspects who were allegedly planning to commit a cash-in-transit robbery. The information led members to a safe house in Khumalo Street, where they recovered seven unlicensed high-calibre rifles, three of which were confirmed to belong to the South African National Defence Force.”
Police Hunt More Suspects After Daveyton Weapons Seizure
Police said investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to be involved in the alleged robbery plot.

Authorities are also working to determine how the SANDF-issued rifles ended up in the possession of the suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement intensifies efforts to dismantle the alleged criminal network.
