Family and friends gathered at the Joburg Theatre to pay their respects and bid farewell to the late actor, Mpho Sebeng, who tragically lost his life in a car crash on May 5. Among the celebrities who took to the podium to deliver heartfelt tributes was actress Rosemary Zimu, a close friend of Mpho.
Rosemary began by sharing a heartfelt message from actress Thuso Mbedu, who fondly recalled her first encounter with Mpho on the set of “Saints and Sinners” in 2014. Thuso spoke of Mpho’s impeccable fashion sense and politeness, setting the stage for the beautiful friendship that would blossom between them.
Reflecting on their bond, Rosemary expressed her gratitude for Mpho’s love and the lessons he taught her.

She remarked, “From the first day I met you, I knew you would be a part of my life forever. Thank you for loving me and for everything you taught me. You were truly an inspiration. I thank God for your talent, the art we created together, and the love we shared.”
As Rosemary continued to share her memories, tears welled up in her eyes when she recalled a poignant scene they had filmed together, where Mpho’s character died.
She emotionally recounted, “We shot a scene where you left me, and you promised that you would never leave me like that. You promised that we would live until we’re 90 years old, win Oscars together, and travel the world with our art. But it’s okay, I’ll still do it for us.”
Through her tears, Rosemary expressed her gratitude for Mpho’s unwavering consistency, his devotion to serving God, and his kindness towards everyone he met.
She thanked God for Mpho’s unforgettable smile, his infectious laughter, and the warm hugs he would envelop her in. She cherished the forehead kisses he would shower her with, playfully teasing her about her height.
Robot Boii, a dancer and media personality, joined Rosemary on stage, accompanied by Mandz Not Hot, Lucky Mangela, Thato Dithebe, and other members of “The Real Housemates.”
Robot Boii spoke of the profound impact Mpho had on their lives and urged everyone to honour his memory by embracing the lessons he taught them and the values he embodied.
Actor and producer Kagiso Modupe, who served as the MC for the memorial service and was a close friend of Mpho, highlighted the overwhelming consensus among those who had known Mpho.
He said, “After Mpho passed, many people shared their last conversations with him on social media, and one recurring theme stood out – Mpho was never afraid to express his love for others.”
Modupe encouraged everyone to carry forward Mpho’s legacy by embracing love, kindness, and expressing their affection for those they hold dear.
As the memorial service came to a close, the room was filled with a bittersweet mix of sorrow and gratitude for the impact Mpho Sebeng had on the lives of those who knew and loved him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans.
