The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thandi Modise, has categorically denied the reports claiming that she has left the African National Congress (ANC) to join the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

Modise expressed her disbelief and disgust at the spread of what she called “fake news” regarding her alleged resignation from the ruling party and her position in Cabinet.

Modise, who has been a loyal and disciplined member of the ANC since the early 1970s, firmly rejected any claims of resignation or insinuations that she has intentions of joining another political party.

She emphasized that the ANC has been her political home for decades and remains committed to serving the South African people. Throughout her political career, Modise has held various positions of leadership within the ANC and the South African government.

She has served as a Member of Parliament, Speaker of the North West Legislature, Deputy Secretary-General of the ANC, Premier of the North West Province, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Speaker of the National Assembly, and currently holds the role of Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.

In reaffirming her loyalty to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership, Modise condemned the spread of false reports as “barbaric acts of wedge drivers” who aim to undermine the unity of the ANC and create instability within the government. She urged the public to exercise caution and be vigilant in consuming news from verified sources.

Modise is fully focused on her government responsibilities as assigned by President Ramaphosa. She also continues to serve in the National Executive Committee of the ANC, which is actively engaged in an intensive campaign for an outright victory in the upcoming national general elections.

This report comes shortly after the expulsion of former members of the provincial legislature (MPL) and MP Mervyn Dirks from the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal for joining the MK Party.

In contrast to Thandi Modise, Dirks openly admitted his affiliation with the MK Party and expressed satisfaction with his expulsion. He stated that his sole mission now is to mobilize support for the MK Party and refrained from discussing any other political party.

It is important for the public to exercise caution when consuming news and to rely on verified sources. False reports and the spread of misinformation can have detrimental effects on the unity of political parties and the stability of the government.

Trustworthy and accurate information is crucial in making informed decisions and maintaining a strong democracy.
