Police Minister Bheki Cele Criticizes Jacob Zuma As ANC Rift Deepens.

Police Minister Bheki Cele has joined the growing chorus of African National Congress (ANC) officials who are openly criticizing former President Jacob Zuma. As the rift between the ruling party and Zuma deepens, Cele has expressed his disapproval of Zuma’s recent actions and decisions.

In December of last year, Zuma announced his support for the newly registered uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party and made it clear that he would not campaign for the ANC in the upcoming 2024 general elections. This announcement has left ANC leaders in a conundrum, unsure of how to respond to Zuma’s defiance.

During an event held at the Pinetown Civic Centre in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Cele emphasized that no individual should consider themselves “above the ANC” or believe that people love them more than the party itself, regardless of their stature within the organization.

He pointed out that Zuma, despite his current position, should not forget his indebtedness to the ANC. Cele highlighted the fact that Zuma continues to enjoy the benefits of the presidential annual salary, amounting to R3 million per year.

He questioned why Zuma would still demand more when he already has access to state vehicles, a significant convoy, and special forces protection. Cele’s remarks were aimed at dispelling any notion that Zuma is being mistreated or neglected by the ANC.

Furthermore, Cele, who served under Zuma during their time in exile, hinted at the existence of undisclosed information about the former president.

He warned that if Zuma were to reveal any secrets, the ANC would also be compelled to share information about him. Cele’s statement serves as a veiled threat, suggesting that Zuma should reconsider his actions and the potential consequences they may have.

Addressing another controversial issue, Cele questioned Zuma’s involvement in the payment of a monthly salary to former apartheid assassin Eugene de Kock. De Kock, who was convicted of crimes against humanity, was granted parole in 2015. Cele demanded that Zuma explain the reasoning behind this decision.

Despite the ongoing tensions, Cele urged ANC members to prioritize the party’s interests and focus on the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the ANC is the cornerstone of South African politics and that the country’s stability depends on its continued presence and success.

Police Minister Bheki Cele encouraged his comrades not to be distracted by Zuma’s actions and to remain dedicated to the ANC’s mission of improving the lives of the South African people. He reiterated that the party should not be held hostage by any individual, including Zuma.
