The appointment of Kholeka Gcaleka as the new Public Protector will be up for consideration by the National Assembly on 19 October at the Cape Town City Hall.
Originally scheduled for 11 September, the vote was postponed to allow for separate voting on the same day due to the open roll call voting mechanism.
The National Assembly Programming Committee decided that the vote would then take place on 21 September.

However, the availability of the Cape Town City Hall and the absence of several Members of Parliament (MPs) due to committee work led to further rescheduling.
At Thursday’s meeting of the National Assembly Programming Committee, it was finally determined that the debate and vote will occur on 19 October in the City Hall.
This will ensure that all 400 MPs can be physically present at the venue, which is of utmost importance to the African National Congress (ANC) to maintain full benches.
In order for Kholeka Gcaleka’s appointment to be confirmed, a minimum 60% support threshold is required.
While the ANC is in favor of her nomination, opposition parties such as the Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) have indicated that they will not support her candidacy.
Without the support of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the ANC might have faced difficulties in securing the necessary 240 votes.
However, with the IFP’s indication of support, it is anticipated that the ANC will employ a three-line whip, compelling all its members to attend the vote and vote according to the party line, as they did during the vote on Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s removal.
