On Friday afternoon, two traffic officials were struck by a minibus taxi while on duty on the N3, resulting in multiple injuries. The accident took place at the Mooi River offramp.
The traffic officials sustained serious injuries and required urgent advanced life support treatment before being transported to the hospital. They have now been admitted to a level 1 trauma hospital for further care.
In another incident, three people were killed and seven were injured when a motor vehicle collided with a light utility vehicle on the corner of R55 and Lochner Road in Centurion, Gauteng.

The collision occurred in the early hours of Friday morning. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency personnel found seven people lying by the roadside and five entrapped in the vehicle.
A multi-discipline rescue effort was initiated, and the jaws of life were used to free patients from the wreckage. Two people were transported to the hospital with moderate injuries, while five others were transported in critical condition, as reported by Arrive Alive.
Meanwhile, Limpopo MEC for Transport, Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae, participated in a roadblock on the N1 northbound as part of her department’s Easter road safety campaign.
Although some road users felt that the roadblock caused unnecessary delays, Letsoha-Mathae explained that the purpose was to reduce crime and improve road safety.
During the roadblock, 570 vehicles were screened for expired license discs and poor tyre conditions. Additionally, motorists with expired driver’s licenses were identified, resulting in 28 cases being issued with fines totalling R18,250.
Furthermore, 11 minibuses were impounded for driving without a public driver’s permit (PDP) and operating without valid licenses. Three buses were also impounded.
In addition to these infractions, two motorists were arrested for driving with fake driver’s licenses and transporting undocumented passengers. Arrive Alive reported that a total of 48 illegal immigrants were arrested on Thursday.
Among them were two minor children and four teenagers who are currently unaccounted for. One bus originating from Zimbabwe (Harare) was stopped, and half of the passengers were found to be without proper documentation.
While roadblocks may cause inconvenience for some, they play a crucial role in ensuring road safety and combating crime. All road users need to comply with traffic regulations and ensure that their vehicles are in proper working condition to prevent accidents and protect lives.
