Gauteng police have apprehended two additional suspects in connection with the murder of five-year-old Ditebogo Phalane Junior. The suspects, aged 29 and 30, were arrested on Monday during a coordinated operation by a multidisciplinary law enforcement team.
This team comprised the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, commonly referred to as the Hawks, the Crime Intelligence Unit, and police officers from Akasia.
The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into the tragic incident that occurred during the hijacking of Ditebogo Junior’s father’s car in Soshanguve, Tshwane. The authorities have been diligently pursuing leads and following up on critical information since the incident took place.

According to Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Wendy Nkabi, the law enforcement team received credible intelligence regarding the suspects’ whereabouts, which prompted immediate action.
Acting on the information, the multidisciplinary team conducted operations in both Soshanguve and Atteridgeville. Their efforts culminated in the successful apprehension of the two suspects, who are believed to be linked to the heinous crime.
This development brings some measure of progress to the case, which has drawn significant public attention and outcry.
The Hawks and other involved units have been commended for their tireless work and dedication to solving the case.
During the operation, law enforcement officials successfully recovered two unlicensed firearms. According to Warrant Officer Nkabi, one of these firearms is suspected to be the murder weapon used in the death of Ditebogo Phalane.
The apprehended suspects are expected to make their initial court appearance before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
This procedural step marks the beginning of what is anticipated to be a closely watched legal process. The community and authorities alike are keen to see justice served in this grievous case.
In a concerning revelation, one of the arrested individuals was discovered to be out on bail at the time of the arrest. This suspect was previously charged with hijacking, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
This information adds a layer of complexity and raises questions about the effectiveness of the bail system in preventing further criminal activities by individuals with pending cases.
The murder case of five-year-old Ditebogo Phalane saw a significant breakthrough last week, leading to the arrest of two primary suspects. The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the apprehension of these individuals in connection with the tragic event.
Upon their arrest, the suspects were found in possession of several incriminating items. Among these were the vehicle used during the hijacking incident, a car jamming device, a firearm, and another stolen vehicle.
The vehicle recovered by SAPS was identified as the same one used during the hijacking, linking the suspects directly to the scene of the crime.
On the fateful day of May 10, five-year-old Ditebogo Phalane Junior lost his life in a heart-wrenching hijacking incident that has shaken the community to its core. The young boy was tragically killed when assailants attempted to seize his father’s vehicle.
As Ditebogo’s father was confronted by the hijackers, the situation escalated rapidly, leading to the untimely and senseless death of the innocent child.
