A 23-year-old man arrested following the killing of two police officers in Reiger Park is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The suspect, described as an alleged gangster, was arrested earlier this week at an informal settlement in Germiston after police recovered two R5 rifles belonging to the slain officers.
He faces two counts of murder as well as a charge relating to the possession of unlicensed firearms. However, investigators have not yet established a direct link between the suspect and the deaths of the two officers.
Reiger Park Police Killing Suspect Faces Court
The two police officers were shot dead last weekend after responding to reports of gunfire in Reiger Park.
Two women were also killed during the shooting.

The subsequent investigation led police to the 23-year-old suspect and the recovery of the two R5 rifles believed to have belonged to the officers.
His appearance at the Boksburg Magistrates Court is expected to set out the charges he faces as the investigation into the deadly shooting continues.
Hawks Say Suspect Not Yet Linked To Officers’ Deaths
While the suspect is facing two murder charges, Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale said investigators have not yet linked him to the murders of the two police officers.

The distinction comes as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the recovery of the officers’ firearms.
The suspect remains due in court on Wednesday.
