In a shocking incident that has left the community in mourning, AmaNtungwa traditional council Inkosi Siphamandla Khumalo (41) and his wife were brutally ambushed and shot dead while driving to a traditional event in Nquthu.

The couple’s four-year-old son, who was also in the vehicle, miraculously survived the attack unharmed.

This is not the first time that Inkosi Khumalo has been targeted. Last year, he miraculously escaped an assassination attempt when he was shot several times while walking to his home in Utrecht.

The motive behind these attacks remains unknown, leaving the family and the community in shock.

Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has expressed her deep condolences to the Khumalo family and the AmaNtungwa Tribal Authority. She described the incident as a tragic loss to the community and the province.

The murder of Inkosi Khumalo and his wife comes almost a year after the previous assassination attempt on his life. The IFP in the KZN Legislature has criticized the government for failing to protect traditional leaders.

The party claims that the government had allocated funds for the establishment of a community safety intervention unit specifically for the protection of traditional leaders in KZN. However, there have been numerous cases involving the murder of Amakhosi that remain unresolved.

IFP KZN leader Blessed Gwala stated that the government’s failure to protect Amakhosi is evident in the rising number of murders.

He emphasized the need for new strategies to deter crime and illegal guns in the province. The IFP believes that these incidents highlight the government’s failure to eradicate crime.

Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident and stated that the Kingsley SAPS is investigating the case as a double murder.
