Police in Delft have arrested nine suspects in connection with alleged gang-related activities following targeted patrols in parts of the area.
Members of the Operation Prosper unit conducted the operation in Rosendal and Delft South on Tuesday, uncovering a cache of illegal drugs and ammunition. Officers confiscated cocaine, tik, mandrax and ecstasy during the late-night raids.
According to police, all nine suspects are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been laid.

Police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana said officers first arrested a 25-year-old woman after finding 29 grams of tik in her pockets.
“The members arrested a 25-year-old female suspect for possession of tik as they found her with 29 grams of tik in her pockets. They then proceeded to Heinkel Street and at approximately 23:10, a 29-year-old male suspect was found in possession of 11 rounds of ammunition, and he was then arrested accordingly.”

Mpendukana said officers continued their patrol to Heinkel Street, where a 29-year-old man was taken into custody after police allegedly discovered 11 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
The operation formed part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to clamp down on gang-related crime and the illegal possession of drugs and firearms in Delft.

Mpendukana added that an 18-year-old woman was among those arrested during the operation.
“The operation continued to Nielson Street at around 23:20, where the members stopped a male and a female aged 18, and proceeded with the search, resulting in three sachets of tik, seven mandrax tablets and seven ecstasy tablets found in their possession. The two suspects were arrested and detained at Delft SAPS.”
The remaining arrests were made during patrols in surrounding areas as officers intensified efforts to disrupt suspected gang activity in the community.
