National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader Fadiel Adams is expected to apply for bail in connection with charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice.

Adams is accused of interfering in a police investigation linked to the murder case of former Sindiso Magaqa politician Sindiso Magaqa.

The Member of Parliament made his first appearance in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court last week, where the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed it would oppose his bail application.

During proceedings, the prosecution said its position on bail changed after developments surrounding Adams following the issuing of a warrant for his arrest.

State prosecutor Advocate Zwelethu Mata told the court the State intends to place further information before the court regarding Adams’ conduct.

“We will place before this court his defiant behaviour on a court order, in instances where he even pronounced profanity to the court.”

According to Mata, some of the allegations will form part of the affidavit prepared by the investigating officer handling the matter.
