Police in Limpopo have arrested the paternal grandparents of missing toddler Omphile Sithole and charged them with child negligence.

The arrests come more than two weeks after the young girl disappeared from her family home in Ga-Mabela Village, sparking an intensive search operation and widespread concern across the province.

Omphile was reported missing on 2 May. Since then, residents have joined police in searching for the toddler, while prayer meetings have been held in the hope that she will be found safe and unharmed.

When Eyewitness News visited the family home just over a week ago, Omphile’s grandmother said the child had allegedly been taken while sleeping beside her.

She claimed she woke to find a bedroom window open and the toddler gone.

The account drew significant public attention as police continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding Omphile’s disappearance.

Police Warn Against Misinformation In Omphile Sithole Case

“Lieutenant General Hadebe has reiterated her call for community cooperation while warning members of the public against the spread of misinformation surrounding the matter. The Provincial Commissioner further appealed to communities to continue providing credible information that may assist police in finding Omphile safely.

“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Omphile Sethole is urged to contact the Mokopane FCS Investigating Officer, Warrant Officer Chuene Selolo, on 082 469 2594, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or share information via the MySAPSApp anonymously.”

Authorities have appealed to anyone with credible information that could help locate the toddler to come forward as efforts to find her continue.
