Self-proclaimed political fixer Brown Mogotsi returned to the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Thursday, where his bail application judgment was postponed to 4 June 2026.
Mogotsi is facing charges relating to allegedly faking his own assassination attempt, as well as perjury, defeating the ends of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and discharging a firearm in public.
During proceedings, the court heard arguments from Mogotsi’s legal team after the State revealed that he had six previous convictions, despite him initially informing the court of only three.
Brown Mogotsi Attorneys Blame Technicality For Conviction Omission
Representing Mogotsi, attorney Nthabiseng Mohomelo told the court the omission was not intentional and stemmed from a misunderstanding about what convictions needed to be disclosed.
According to Mohomelo, Mogotsi did not realise that cases resulting in suspended sentences also had to be included in his disclosure before the court.

“I invite the court to look at the fact that the applicant is a lay person and accommodate the applicant in as far as the possibility of making errors, especially because these previous convictions are fines and he wasn’t incarcerated for them.”
Mohomelo added that there was no malicious intent behind the omission of the additional convictions.
Bail Arguments Focus On Address Dispute And Bribery Allegation
The defence also rejected other concerns raised during the bail proceedings, including questions around Mogotsi’s residential address and allegations that he attempted to bribe the investigating officer in the case.
Mohomelo described those issues as misunderstandings, maintaining that the accused had not deliberately misled the court.
The magistrate reserved judgment on the bail application until next week, when Mogotsi is expected back in court for the ruling.
