A member of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has been killed and another injured following a shooting at a pharmacy in Qumbu, Eastern Cape, on Saturday.
Eastern Cape police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder and are searching for those responsible for the attack.
The ANCYL in the province confirmed that the two victims are members of the organisation.

According to police, three individuals arrived at the pharmacy to buy masks when the incident occurred.
Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said the victims were targeted as they approached the premises.
“As they attempted to enter, gunfire erupted. The victims took cover inside, and the shooting continued for some time before the suspect(s) fled. Nothing was taken from the victims or the pharmacy.”

Investigators processed the scene and collected several pieces of evidence following the shooting.
“Crime scene investigators recovered multiple rifle cartridges, projectiles, and sealed bullets. The motive is not yet established. No arrests have been made, and the suspects remain unknown.”

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward as efforts to track down the suspects continue.
