On Monday, a 31-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court for the rape of his one-month-old newborn daughter.

On Thursday, police arrested a man in Krokedile Drift West, Brits, for allegedly raping an infant girl.

Captain Aafje Botma said the baby’s mother was cooking supper when the man pounced on her.

Reports have it that the infant’s mother, 27, was outside preparing food as the father slept inside with the baby next to him. When the mother entered, she sensed something was amiss because both the father and the infant were nude.

“The amazed mother screamed for help and one of the neighbors responded and eventually called the police. The baby was taken to Brits hospital for medical examination and subsequently admitted.

“The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 October 2023, for rape,” Bothma said.

Bothma stated that the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the terrible incident, describing it as “shocking.”

“He applauded the police and members of the community for their swift reaction that led to the arrest,” he said.

Meanwhile, police in Gauteng have apprehended over 140 people and recovered guns, including an AK-47, from a man suspected of being the West Rand’s kingpin of illicit mining.

Saps’ operation was part of the Safer Festive Season initiative, which is underway as the holiday season approaches.

The subject of the Safer Festive Season campaign, which was launched on Saturday, is “Combating crime through decisive police action and robust community involvement.”
