More than a decade after the untimely passing of Vuyo Mbuli, his wife Savita took to her timeline to gush over the remarkable legacy he left behind. Vuyo, a beloved South African television presenter, died at the age of 46 while watching a rugby match in the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

His sudden departure left a void in the hearts of many, but his impact continues to resonate.

In a heartfelt post, Savita shared an image of herself visiting Vuyo’s grave and expressed her admiration for the difference he made in the lives of countless people. “You are a legend. Truly so. Little did you know the difference you would make to the lives of so many people,” she wrote.

Savita went on to share a story about an overlooked part of Port Alfred, a beautiful town that had an ugly side hidden from pictures.

It was a place where communities lived on the riverbanks, in precarious informal structures that could be swept away by high tides or during the rainy season. The residents would often return from work or school to find themselves homeless.

This dire situation deeply troubled Vuyo, and it sparked the birth of a groundbreaking private-public partnership. He reached out to local, provincial, and national governments, as well as a bank, and brought them together on television to address the issue. This collaboration laid the foundation for change.

Fast forward to today, and the once vulnerable community has transformed into a thriving township, larger than the combined areas of Pimville’s Zone 4 and Zone 5. The residents now live in decent homes, thanks to the tireless efforts of Vuyo and the collective action he inspired.

Vuyo Mbuli’s commitment to making a difference didn’t stop there. Throughout his career, he used his platform to shine a light on societal issues and give a voice to the voiceless. He was known for his charismatic presence and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
