Eleven suspects linked to an alleged drug manufacturing operation worth more than R1 billion are expected to return to the Swartruggens Magistrates Court in the North West on Friday morning.

The accused include five Mexican nationals, three South Africans, two Zimbabweans and one Mozambican national. They were arrested during a police raid earlier this month.

Police said the group is facing several charges connected to the alleged clandestine drug laboratory, including drug manufacturing and immigration-related offences.

Court Case Delayed For Interpreters And Bail Preparations

The matter was previously heard on 15 May 2026, when proceedings were postponed.

The postponement was granted to allow the accused to secure interpreters, verify their immigration status and prepare for a possible formal bail application.

The group faces charges including substance manufacturing, illegal possession of precious metals, unlawful possession of hazardous materials and contravention of the Immigration Act.
