Former Cabinet minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has set the record straight about her connection to award-winning amapiano singer Nkosazana Daughter.
Taking to X, the former ANC MP explained that despite receiving numerous congratulatory messages about the singer’s success, the popular musician is not one of her children.
The confusion appears to stem from the artist’s stage name, which has led many people in South Africa and elsewhere on the continent to assume that the two are related.
Dr Dlamini Zuma Responds To Popular Misconception
Dr Dlamini Zuma wrote on X that she had been inundated with messages from people who believed the singer was her daughter.
“I have been receiving congratulatory messages on the success of #NkosazanaDaughter, Many people, especially on the continent, mistakenly think she is one of my daughters,” she wrote on X.

Dr Dlamini Zuma shares three daughters — Thuthukile Zuma, Thuli Zuma and Gugu Zuma-Ncube — with former president Jacob Zuma.
Both Gugu and Thuli have made names for themselves in South Africa’s television industry. They are associated with successful productions including the Uzalo on South African Broadcasting Corporation and the Umjolo series on Netflix.

Nkosazana Daughter, whose full name is Nkosazana Nolwazi Nzama, is from Durban and has become one of the most recognisable voices in amapiano.

The clarification sparked amusement online, with many social media users joking that, despite the explanation, they were still convinced that Nkosazana Daughter belongs to Dr Dlamini Zuma’s family.
