A man from Bishop Lavis has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his former girlfriend in the face with a knife in Nooitgedacht on Sunday evening.
The suspect, who allegedly fled after the attack, was taken into custody on Monday and is expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on a charge of attempted murder.
The incident took place in Bream Way, Nooitgedacht, where the woman, who lives in Hout Bay, had been visiting friends.
Police Confirm Attempted Murder Charge After Nooitgedacht Stabbing
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the woman was attacked by her ex-boyfriend while spending time with friends.
Van Wyk reported: “According to reports, the girlfriend who resides in Hout Bay was visiting friends in Bream Way, Nooitgedaght on Sunday, 10 May when her ex-boyfriend, who is from Bishop Lavis, approached and assaulted her, stabbing her in her face with a knife.”
Initially, police opened a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH). The charge was later upgraded to attempted murder.
Community Members Rush Victim To Hospital
Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum (BLCPF) chairperson Amanda Davids said she was alerted to the incident by a community member shortly after it happened.
Davids said: “I received a call from a community member around 9pm on Sunday evening informing me that a lady was stabbed badly in Bream Way by her boyfriend.

“The community member advised that she is unresponsive and that they are taking her to Elsies River day hospital, as they were afraid she would not make it if they waited for an ambulance.
“I received the photos and videos that showed the knife was stuck in her face. I immediately sent it to the Vispol Commander of Bishop Lavis SAPS, and I then received information later that she was transferred to Tygerberg Hospital from the community member who alerted me.”

Davids thanked Bishop Lavis police for quickly locating and arresting the suspect.
Davids added: “The BLCPF wants to thank Bishop Lavis SAPS for their swift arrest of the suspect. I hope this sends a loud and clear message to perpetrators of gender-based violence and domestic violence, we will not tolerate it in the Bishop Lavis Precinct.”
The woman remains in hospital following the attack.
