On the eve of President Cyril Ramaphosa appointing his cabinet, the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) announced its decision to join the Government of National Unity (GNU).

This move comes as a response to the African National Congress (ANC) failing to secure an outright majority in the national and provincial elections. The GNU aims to bring together various political parties to guide South Africa towards stability and development.

In addition to the ANC, several other political parties have agreed to join the GNU. These parties include the Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Patriotic Alliance (PA), Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), and Good Party.

The inclusion of these parties aims to foster a collaborative approach to governance, ensuring that diverse viewpoints contribute to policy-making and national dialogue.

Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the leader of FF Plus, emphasized the party’s commitment to helping restore and rebuild South Africa.

He stated, “The FF Plus was invited to become part of the government of national unity and decided, after careful consideration, to get involved to help restore and rebuild South Africa.”

By joining the GNU, FF Plus aims to implement its policies and fulfil its mandate to save the country from ruin.

Dr Groenewald highlighted the opportunity for FF Plus to participate in national dialogues and contribute to drafting better policy directions. The party intends to be crucial in ensuring stability and promoting economic recovery.

Groenewald also emphasized the importance of restoring Parliament’s role in overseeing and holding the executive authority accountable.

He stated, “Parliament’s role as an institution tasked with effectively overseeing the executive authority and holding it accountable, without favouring any single party, must be restored.”

With the participation of FF Plus in the GNU, there is hope for a collaborative and inclusive approach to governance in South Africa. The party’s involvement is a step towards economic recovery, job creation, and improved service delivery.

As President Cyril Ramaphosa echoed during his inauguration, South Africa must be restored and rebuilt. FF Plus stands ready to play a key role in this crucial process for the benefit of all citizens.
