The fire, which started in the early hours of the morning, is located under the M1 double-decker section. As a result, a thick cloud of smoke has enveloped the area, reducing visibility and causing concern for motorists.

In response to the incident, EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi has stated that their colleagues from City Power have been called in to assist while the fire is being extinguished.

Due to the ongoing emergency, motorists are being advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area. The presence of the dark smoke and the potential hazards associated with the underground fire make it necessary to divert traffic away from the immediate vicinity.

Authorities are working diligently to contain the fire and minimize any further damage. Updates regarding the situation and the reopening of affected roads will be communicated to the public as soon as possible.
