In a significant development in the fight against transnational crime, South Africa’s Police Minister Bheki Cele has announced that a joint action plan with Mozambique has yielded positive results.
Since the signing of the agreement in February last year, at least 23 stolen vehicles have been returned to their South African owners, and over 140 suspects have been arrested.
Minister Cele, along with Mozambique’s Interior Minister Pedro Ronda, recently concluded a two-day bilateral technical working group in Maputo.

The meeting, which took place on Monday, aimed to enhance cooperation between the two countries in combating cross-border crime, particularly vehicle theft syndicates operating at the Manguzi border post in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
During the working group meeting, Minister Cele also revealed that a man believed to be behind a series of kidnappings is set to be deported back to Mozambique. This development highlights both countries’ commitment to ensuring their citizens’ safety and security.
Minister Cele emphasized that the ultimate goal of the partnership between South Africa and Mozambique is to make a tangible impact on the lives of people in both countries.
